Features

Following is an overview of STATISTICA 9 features:

  • Performance Improvements
  • Excel Import Improvements
  • Statistics Enhancements
  • Data Miner Workspace Enhancements
  • Graph Enhancements
  • Spreadsheet Enhancements
  • Other System Enhancements
  • STATISTICA Enterprise Enhancements

Performance Improvements

  • Multi-Core CPU Support takes advantage of recent “multithreading” changes implemented in computationally intensive STATISTICA analytic and data management procedures, resulting in dramatic speed gains on both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of STATISTICA.
  • Extremely large data sets are now supported in Data Mining modules (e.g., Interactive Trees, Boosted Trees, Random Forests, Cluster Analysis) that require iterative processing of the entire data set.

Excel Import Improvements

  • Microsoft Excel 2007 (*.xlsx) importing for non-U.S. locales has been improved.

Statistics Enhancements

  • Basic Statistics contains a new Percent of Valid Observation option, which is the proportion of valid observations for a selected variable to the number of cases reported for that variable.
  • Generalized Linear/Nonlinear Models (GLZ) now generates:
    • Odds ratios and their confidence intervals
    • Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) Curve
    • Tweedie distribution
  • Quality Control Charts now accommodate one-sided control limits, including X, X-bar, MA, EWMA, Individuals with Moving Range, and CuSum, which can be deployed to STATISTICA Enterprise.
  • Survival Analysis contains a new Confidence Level field on the Regression Results dialog. The value in the Conf. Level field is used for constructing confidence limits for the parameter estimates and the risk or hazard ratio.

Data Miner Workspace Enhancements

  • Scrollable trees are now part of Data Miner Workspace output.
  • When adding nodes to the Data Miner Workspace from the node browser, a sound will now be produced to alert the user.
  • In the Data Miner Workspace, the logistic regression for deployment node now offers model building techniques including stepwise and best subset regression. Nodes for deployment allow for easy comparison of model performance within the workspace.

Graph Enhancements

  • Scatterplot graph markers using "outline style" are now transparent to better display multiple points clustered together.
  • Box Plots now have ToolTip text to display N and case names.
  • Multiple Plots (e.g., multiple scatterplot with one X variable and two or more Y variables) automated by SVB scripts now include data for newly added spreadsheet columns after the initial plot is created (without needing to delete and re-create the plot).
  • Categorized graphs (such as means plots, box plots, missing data/range plots, and ternary plots) now have an Overlaid Layout option, which overlays all subsets in one graph and identifies them with colors and patterns.

Spreadsheet Enhancements

  • STATISTICA Spreadsheets now support a user-entered comment in the audit trail.
  • The Subset data management feature now has easier access to Spreadsheet Case Selection Conditions.
  • Two new STATISTICA Visual Basic (SVB) function calls have been added to the spreadsheet object model to optimize the size of text variables based on the existing text:
    • OptimalTextVariableWidths
    • SetTextVariableWidths
  • You can now save spreadsheets as a Comma Separated File (*.csv)

Other System Enhancements

  • If your company has a SAS system installed, you can now build your models in STATISTICA and then deploy them in the SAS environment.
  • STATISTICA Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) options to pre-process batch manufacturing data to constant batch lengths are now available from directly within the Multivariate Statistical Process Control (MSPC) module.
  • The STATISTICA Electronic Manual (i.e., online Help) contains a new "STATISTICA Examples" folder in the Table of Contents in the top "Getting Help" folder. This makes it easier to find step-by-step tutorials demonstrating STATISTICA functionality.

STATISTICA Enterprise Enhancements

  • A new database connection role is available for users who are not system administrators.
  • When using QC analysis configurations, users can define not only two-sided but also one-sided control limits.
  • You can now add an existing Dashboard to a Dashboard definition via Dashboard Admin - Add Task, using the Add Dashboard button.
  • When creating a Data Configuration query, you can now associate Specifications to multiple Characteristics.
  • Monitoring and Alerting Server (MAS) now tracks which samples have been processed and alarms on only the most recent data. Note that this functionality requires that the Data Configuration have an auto-update column defined.

Update for STATISTICA Version 8

MR-3 update posted on October 31, 2008. This release includes STATISTICA Data Miner Recipes with its wizard-like user interface for STATISTICA Data Miner, STATISTICA Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL), along with various updates.

  • Support for Workbook compression with memory being reclaimed after a workbook is compressed or items are deleted
  • Default settings for STATISTICA can be set by the network administer and distribute through the enterprise

Microsoft Office Support/Integration

  • Further enhancements to Microsoft Office integration
  • Option to set the formatting (case names, variable names, cell formatting) per sheet when importing multiple sheets from an Excel Workbook
  • The Save As dialog will accept a typed extension to determine document type (.doc, txt, sta, etc..). To save a STATISTICA spreadsheet as an Excel document simply type adstudy.xls and click on Save. Your document will be saved as an Excel document.
  • Support for read/write all version of Microsoft Excel up to Office 2007.

R Integration

R is a statistical programming language that caters to highly specialized audiences with particular data analysis needs. This high level language provides access to well over 1000 different data analysis and data mining packages, and thousands of procedures.

R procedures can be accessed via STATISTICA in several ways:

  • Access R COM Server library directly
  • Using STATISTICA datasets and retrieving results
  • Calling R from SVB
  • Running R from STATISTICA
  • Running R from STATISTICA Enterprise
  • Running R as a Data Miner node
  • Running R from WebSTATISTICA

Click for more information on STATISTICA and R Language

STATISTICA Data Miner

  • The STATISTICA Data Miner Recipe (SDMR) approach provides an intuitive graphical interface to enable those with limited data mining experience to execute a "recipe-like" step-by-step analytic process. With these intuitive dialogs, you can perform various data mining tasks such as regression, and classification. Other recipes can be built quickly as custom solutions. Completed recipes can be saved and deployed as project files to score new data.
  • The STATISTICA Data Miner workspace may be resized independently of the size of the window. Additionally, the 4 node placement rectangles within the workspace may be sized independently. The workspace may be scrolled to view any parts not currently visible.

STATISTICA Enterprise

  • XBar-R or XBar-S charts can be created from aggregated data.
  • A new chart type of "Six Graph" graph can be selected for SPC Analysis Configurations that have variable charts defined.
  • Options for starting "this week" either on Sunday or Monday
  • Administrators may restrict the set of filtering operations to those that are logical for the data being filtered.
  • A Deployment option allows you to directly upload PMML into Enterprise SVB Analysis Configurations so that the PMML can be executed against a Data Configuration
  • STATISTICA Enterprise Reporter can now generate reports directly as Word documents (*.doc). This requires that Microsoft Word be installed on the machine where the Report is run.
  • The Ad hoc Analysis Configuration is a special type of Analysis Configuration that just returns the data from the associated Data Configuration without running any analysis or SVB. Running an Ad hoc Analysis Configuration is equivalent to exploring the associated Data Configuration. This is useful for users that want to use STATISTICA Enterprise to import their data, and then perform ad hoc analyses.
